COACHING TOOLS
The main coaching tools that cognitive coaches use are: rapport, meditative questioning, response behaviors, and pacing and leading.  It is important for coaches to learn these tools and use them with the conversation maps.  A major focus is on trust and rapport with the mentee (Garmston R., Costa, A., 2002).  By using these tools, coaches will build trust by developing physical and verbal rapport, assist thinking through questioning, increasing a person’s autonomy by growing his or her sense of efficacy and self-awareness, not be an evaluation tool, choose coaching interactions that agree with a variety of styles, use coaching skills to improve the intellectual processes of performance (Cognitive Coaching, 2012).
